Our Halloween tree is up and decorated. One of my favorite ornaments is the glass ghost. Superhero has carried more of the load decorating this year because of the travel I have to do at this time. But, I squeeze every hour I can to be a part of these special times. The lights as usual go on first, then the ornaments, but after the ornaments were on I had trouble getting a good picture that showed how much fun this tree brings to the room.

I thought about this with writing, and how many different “lights”, angles, etc . . . you can cast on a story. My day job and project-N take a large portion of my time and I have to be precise with time management to get everything done and have time to continue my writing. The good news is that the overlap between my science and writing allows me to do both, each entity helping the other. I have a subplot story which is my focus right now. The guts of the story are recorded – my writing tools weren’t available at the time, but my phone was – eh, you do what works.

I try to use my blog as a reference for what I’m doing so I can repeat the things that work and delete the things that don’t. So, my next step with the subplot is just to get it down on paper. I could just transcribe it to type, but I would miss the handwritten stage which is a vital part of my process. At present I’m going to take it from recording to handwritten pages. I know it will take more time; but, for me, writing is an art I want to master. I may change my mind if it appears this is an unnecessary step, but for now that is my plan.
